Understanding Diamond Color

If you are in the market for diamond jewelry, it is important that you have at least a basic understanding of the ins and outs of diamond color.  Diamond color is one of the aspects that is taken into consideration when it comes to valuing a diamond.

Diamond Color

The fact is that diamonds actually do come in a variety of colors.  Generally speaking, the coloration of a diamond runs from clear to yellow – with intermediate colorations in between.  The color of a diamond is rated on a scale that utilizes letters.  The best grade of diamond – when it comes to color – is considered to be a colorless diamond which is rated with the letter D.  In addition, diamonds rated E and F are also considered top of the line.  At the other end of the spectrum would be a yellow diamond with a rating of Z.  Once again, there are intermediate colorations in between that are assigned different letter ratings in sequential order.

In the end, when it comes to selecting a diamond you need to make sure you have the best possible balance between cut, clarity and color to ensure that you have the most dazzling and brilliant diamond possible.
